NMAAT Prevention Network Meeting June 21, 2021

June 21, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Opening & Greetings to All
• Special Greeting to Visitors & New Network Members (Thanks for Joining Us Today!)

Updates & New Activities
have been involved in activities that helped us celebrate the spirit of our Family, our
Community, and our Ancestors! We’ll be hearing from our members/partners about any
program activities they would like to share supporting Health & Wellness this month!
Part of this sharing & celebration will include an overview of the past Fiscal Year and
how NMAAT has been working across New Mexico.
• June is also Men’s Health Month. It actually took the federal government about 20yrs
to decided to officially recognize, honor and celebrate Men and their healthcare needs.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why remain such high rates of smoking in our
communities. Still, checkout the OMH website for more information and links to Men’s
Health during June.
• We’re Highlighting NMAAT’s Juneteenth Activities! During the month of June, NMAAT
is celebrating our Ancestors. This includes the week of Juneteenth where we will
highlight our current slate of activities, seek to share the activities of our membership,
and discover other opportunities to highlight the accomplishments and dreams of our
ancestors. We invite our members and guests to please log onto the website, checkout
our new interviews, announcements, arts, and Events Section! Also be sure to join us on
Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!

NMAAT Guests, Partnership Activities, and Announcements
• Virtual Town Hall – Discussing Diabetes. This virtual gathering is being sponsored by local
health and social service providers to find out how diabetes and pre-diabetes is affecting NM
Black communities. The meetings are taking place on three days: June 15th at 10am / June 19th
at 12noon / and June 22nd at 6pm. You are invited to sign-up at this registration link: Virtual Diabetes Town Hall. The resulting information will be shared with the NM Secretary of Health
for follow-up suggestions, activities and recommendations for improved changes to access
throughout the state.
• NM’s Black “Thought” Expo. Since 2003, the Office of African American Affairs has held the NM
Black Expo to do just this. The NM Black Expo celebrates the history, culture, experiences, and
actions of our community. A day focused on building our capacity and making a space for the
thoughts and actions important to us.
This year, while we continue to stay safe from the pandemic, the NM Black Expo will move
virtual—the NM Black “Thought” Expo. We will provide multiple, virtual events during May and
June. These events will highlight our Black businesses, organizations, and successes. And we
will hear from national speakers and community leaders about the issues that are important to
improving the lives of NM African Americans. To Register for the event, click on this link.
